	5 of 9. The Makapuu Lighthouse has the largest lens and the only 12-foot-high Hyperradiant lens used in United States lighthouses. The 115,000 candlepower light from the Makapuu Lighthouse is visible for 28 miles. All commerce from the west coast of North American that is bound for Honolulu passes by the Makapuu Lighthouse. In recent years, the lighthouse has been enhanced with a radio beacon that can be heard over two hundred miles at sea.
