SCUBA Dive on the
Corsair Wreck
|
|
![]() |
The U. S. Navy
Gull Wing Corsair Fighter that became well known during Black
Sheep movie and TV series is a favorite dive site on the east side of
Oahu. In 1946, Lieutenant Holden ran out of fuel and made a dead stick
landing. He was rescued and the plane settled on the bottom at about 105
feet. Deep enough not to be disturbed by storms, the Corsair
aluminum structure has aged well and
is in
much better condition than vessels made of steel that were sunk twenty
years ago.
Underwater camera equipment and film used
during this dive:
Nikonos III with 15mm lens and dual strobes
