2 of 5. Although Kilauea is considered a safe volcano, twenty people have died viewing the flow. Most succumbed to respiratory failure. Rain water seeps into the earth and turns to steam. The rising vapors collect sulfuric acid, miniature glass particles and other chemicals. Be cautious if you visit the park and have respiratory problems.
