3 of 6.  Whitetip  Reef sharks is very common in Hawaii and often observed by divers. This species shark is one of the few that can lay on the ocean floor and force water over their gills to continue breathing. Whitetip Reef sharks are very docile and can be approached by divers with little risk. When crowded, they will often leave the area and return when the divers have left. The most dangerous shark in Hawaii is the Tiger Shark, but it typically will avoid divers and is rarely observed.
